BERNTHØLER

Drita Kotaji, frontwoman of the short-lived Belgian band Bernthøler, is one of my favourite voices. Partly because of the Albanian-born accent that comes through on most tracks and partly because almost everything she says/sings is a veritable whisper. Bernthøler were mostly known for the John-Peel-endorsed 1983 single ‘My Suitor‘, but my personal favourite is ‘Japanese Garden’:

In 2004, LTM released Merry Lines in the Sky, a compilation featuring Bernthøler’s otherwise difficult-to-find complete back catalogue of singles and unreleased demos. Neat.
